Thank you for enrolling in ‘All Hands on Deck Maritime Training’ Coxswain NC3 Training Course.

THE ACTIVITIES & ASSIGNMENTS BELOW MUST BE COMPLETED AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE PRACTICAL SESSION.

On successful completion of the Coxswain NC3 course you will be able to command a commercial vessel up to 12 metres in length up to 1nm to sea (non passenger carrying) or 2nm from the coast in sheltered waters in day time conditions. The NC3 can also be used at sea if within 1nm of a parent vessel and communication is maintained with the parent vessel (Marine Radio Licence required).  For details of where a Coxswain NC3 applies please use this link. PLEASE NOTE: You should fully understand the limitations of coxswain NC3 and where it applies.

Below you will find links to access the activities and assignment pages. Everyone has their own individual style of learning and studying, nevertheless it is important to read all the relevant information below before attempting the activities and assignments. All Coxswain’s must have the knowledge in the categories below so THE EASIEST WAY TO COMPLETE THE ACTIVITIES IS TO START AT THE TOP AND WORK YOUR WAY DOWN THE ACTIVITIES IN AN ORDERLY FASHION. If at any time a link is broken please us us know (it happens from time to time) and we will fix it straight away.

If you are going to download files to a folder on your computer then to do this go to your Desktop and right click – select New and then Folder. Call the folder ‘COX NC3 course’. If you are using a Tablet of Phone and cannot download then you should Bookmark this page.

The online pre study component requires that you to complete a number of activities and assignments. At this stage you can attempt the activities based on your current knowledge or you can look answers up from the training manuals and resources. When you complete an activity you will receive results back in your email inbox and a copy will also be sent to All Hands on Deck Maritime Training for reviewing and filing. If a result says ‘Review your Answers’ this simply means that you should take self responsibility for your learning and check your answers against the expected answers. If you have made a number of errors then you should try again. If you are comfortable that you understand the subject and did not make many errors then move on to the next subject.

Overall we estimate that it should take about 15 hours of self study. If you plan on committing 1 to 2 hours per day you will have these activities and assignments completed in a reasonable period of time.

When you have completed the pre study activities, and within the 2 weeks prior to the practical session, use the Contact Us button below for a final assessment via Zoom or Skype. Please note: Confirmation in any Practical session is NOT confirmed until ALL pre study activities  and assessments have been completed.

FINALLY: If you are unable to attend the practical session date that you nominated on the enrolment form please advise us. There are responsibilities as a Student and one of these is to ensure that you complete the course within the required time frame.  You can apply for an extention or to defer the course 3 times however your enrolment will expire after 6 months if the course is not completed.

Kind regards

Kel Morrison, Training Master
