COVID 19 situation regarding GPH courses
COVID – 19 situations are changing constantly and quickly and we will do our best to keep all students and inquirers up to date regarding any impact to our courses. Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) that may assist you at this point in time. Please keep in mind that as a Registered Training Organisation we fall under the Education category and candidates are permitted to travel for Education. In fact every course we have had scheduled through out the COVID – 19 (except March 2020) has operated.
Q. Are your course still operating?
A. All Coxswain and General Purpose Hand courses are operating as normal although we have reduced the number of students in each course to maintain physical distancing. In fact all courses throughout the COVID – 19 period to date (except March 2020 when the government shut everything down) has operated.
Q. What is the length of the course?
A. We have always been an online training organisation so when COVID – 19 hit it was a very easy transition for us. Quite simply we moved more activities and assessments online (currently 90% online) and reduced the face to face practical session. (For Coxswain from 4 days down to 2 days and for GPH from 2 days down to 1 day). Coastal Navigation and Marine Radio are 100% online.
Q. What if I am coming from interstate?
A. We have always had many interstate students attend the course (26 from WA in 2019 and 25 from Qld in 2020) and this is still the situation. However because 90% of the course is online and the practical session is only 2 days (mainly for our Fire, Survival and Boathandling components) we are now able to provide information to candidates to complete these activites in their own state (or in some cases by providing video evidence).
Q. What is the current situation for candidates in NSW with the current situation?
A. Firstly candidates from regional areas may travel for Education. (See image below). Candidates from the Sydney region may travel for Education but must obtain a permit from Service NSW.
Q. What should I do if I want to know more about the current situation?
A. You should simply call us on 0434803687 and we can advise you.
