How to get a Boat Licence

Enroll in a NSW Maritime Boat Licence course

All Hands on Deck Maritime Training have been delivering Boat Licence training for over 12 years and by having a dedicated training vessel we are able to provide you with the easiest and most cost effective method to obtain your boat Licence.  We provide a ‘COMPLETE COURSE’ and therefore  ‘NO LOG BOOK IS REQUIRED’. There are other ways to obtain your Boat Licence however these take longer and cost more so you should check that you are enrolling in the COMPLETE COURSE. Please call us on 0434 803 687 if you are unsure.

The cost for the complete General Boat Licence complete course, including the compulsory Practical training component conducted in one session is $255.00 for an Adult and $195.00 for a Pensioner concession or Young Adult (12-16 years).

Please use the forms below to enroll in the NSW General Boat Licence Course for the issue of a General Boat Licence (for those persons 16 years+). You can choose to enroll just 1 Adult person or up to 4 Adult persons at the same time. (Providing vacancies exist – check for vacancies here) For Pensioner Concession and Young Adult Boat Licence please see enrollment form at the bottom of the page.

General Boat Licence candidates aged between 12-16 years must sit the same written assessment as Adult General Boat Licence candidates however when they reach the age of 16 years their licence automatically converts to a full licence without further training or assessment.

If there is more than 1 Adult person enrolling at the same time then please take advantage of our discounted rates as follows:

  • 2 persons – $245.00 each (Save $10.00 each)
  • 3 persons – $235.00 each (Save $20.00 each)
  • 4 or more persons – $225.00 each (Save $30.00 each)

For safety reasons we do not collect Boat Licence fees on the day therefore pre- enrollment and pre-payment of course fees is required. Courses are conducted on a weekly basis. (Please click here for the current course dates and vacancies). Some pre-study is required prior to attending a course and we recommend that you should enroll at least 3-5 days prior to the course to allow sufficient time to read the required boating rules and regulations. We have also developed some easy to use websites that assist in understanding the rules and regulations. These websites have contributed greatly to our achievement of a very high percentage of candidates obtaining their licence on the 1st attempt. Something we are very proud of!

Not able to attend one of our scheduled courses?

Why not book a private course?

We can conduct private Boat Licence courses from 2 to 6 persons on a day to suit you (subject to vacancies as we do lots of training). Our course fees for private Boat Licence training are as follows:

    3 persons – $275.00 each (Save $20.00 each)
    4 persons – $265.00 each (Save $30.00 each)

How did you find out about us?

Hi Peter, The Boat Licence course I attended today was so well run and enjoyable, I was actually shocked. I didn’t expect to learn as much as I did and all the extra tips you gave and demonstrated, not for the exam, but for our boating enjoyment, made this course so valuable. I would highly recommend you to everyone, and now believe a refresher course should be compulsory as so many laws change over time. I thank you for your professionalism and pleasing delivery of all the info required to pass the test. Well done! Kylie B

This is the most impressive experience I’ve had in training, development and leisure in the past 10 years as a professional. Steve N.

Hi Peter and Derek, thank you for all your assistance with the NSW Maritime Boat Licence course. I would like to compliment you both on a professional well organized training course. Your attention to detail and forward planning made the day most enjoyable and allowed for a stress free exam. Rest assured I would not hesitate to recommend your services and certainly would look no further should I require any additional training. Pat B.

The course was run very professionally with instructors willing to help and answer questions. Reference material was also very good. Scott C.
